Dr. Matiko received his M.D. Degree from Loma Linda University School of Medicine and completed his residency at Tulane University in New Orleans. He then went on to complete two Hand Surgery Fellowships one at Loma Linda University and one at the University of Louisville, and a Sports Medicine Fellowship at the Southern California Orthopaedic Institute in Van Nuys. As the Director of Orthopaedic Upper Extremity Surgery at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center and Assistant Clinical Professor at Loma Linda University Medical Center, he enjoys working closely with medical students and residents.

It is his belief that patient education is essential and he has given many lectures to community groups regarding orthopaedic problems.

Dr. Matiko likes to surround himself with people that are smarter than he is. “I like to approach any operation with the feeling (right or wrong) that there is no one in the country that could perform that surgery better than I can. If I don’t feel that way and there is an option available, I would refer the patient to someone who can do the procedure better.”

Volunteerism and mission work are extremely important to Dr. Matiko and he has spent a great deal of his time providing his expertise to underserved people in places around the world such as Nepal and Bhutan. He has lived in the Inland Empire for 30 years and he and his wife Becky have 2 children. Other interests are many types of music, computers, and photography.
